Firing not included. If you are a student or member regular firing fees will apply. For non-affiliated registrants it will cost 4-cents/cu in. if you'd like us to bisque fire your pieces.

This workshop can be taken as a 1- or 2-day class, and because it will be focusing on applying surface treatments to forms, wheel throwers AND handbuilders with experience are welcome!
On the first day, Haakon will demonstrate the various surface treatments and forms in his work, covering marbling slips, combining clays as agateware, slip/image transfer, as well as his "expansionware," or applied and stretched slip, and his "confettiware" process. He will also cover the formal aspects of how he constructs pieces and discuss how decisions in the throwing and trimming impact surface decoration.
The second day will be hands on. With Haakon's guidance, participants will apply these surface treatments to forms that they construct.
About Haakon
Born and raised on the upper west side of Manhattan, Haakon Lenzi was first exposed to the potters wheel in high school and has been throwing his life away ever since. He received a BFA in ceramics from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University where he was greatly influenced by his studies in printmaking, sculpture and anthropology. He then continued his studies in an independent study at Columbia University's Teacher's College.
Haakon has been a visiting artist at Goggle Works and Columbia University’s Teacher’s College and has exhibited nationally, including The Jane Hartstok Gallery in New York City, The Northern Clay Center in Minneapolis as well as NCECA (The National Council on the Education of the Ceramic Arts). Currently he is a faculty member of Greenwich House Pottery and Gasworks in New York City. Haakon maintains an active studio practice in his East Harlem “El Barrio” studio where he produces his signature Lenziware pottery, combining his love for historical ceramics with the visual and cultural density of his hometown. www.haakonlenzi.com.
